Finishing our Discussion of Growning Up Digital, Wired for Distraction
Save the Last Word For Me Protocol and Debrief

Wednesday, February 15th

Hope in technology!
The Internet is not leaving us so how do we deal with all its power and capabilities as humans?
The NetGenED project seeks to have you, as students tackle what schools are grappling with daily as the internet seems to grow.
Looking at the videos linked here...decide which technologies are in your top 3, those that you would want to investigate and work with the rest of the semester.
Submit in the table provided below a list of your top 3 technologies by the end of the class and provide one reason why you believe it could be a positive tool.
Dana
Learning Analytics-can determine what students need in order to graduate and can track which schools, cities and states are most successful in their education systems. This allows schools to have a clear picture of which students are succeeding and can teach schools what steps need to be taken in order to get more students going on to have successful careers. The Internet of Things-has the ability to connect systems in order to make people more productive, efficient and connected to each other. Gesture Based Computing-gives students the ability to try different methods of learning mathematics, spelling and vocabulary developement. Gesture based computing is both interactive and engaging for students.
Jad
Gesture-based computing- Grand idea in taking several hands-on activites and mixing it with technology. Besides the tablet computing is a single device deal, gesture-based, such as sifters, provides a way for learning through multiple tiny screens that are sensitive to eachother and create a puzzle like education method.
Miryam
Game based learning- it builds a sense of confidence, and if we can take that confidence and apply it to real world problems we can save the world.
Internet of things- the internet is now connecting things together and therefore we are informed about about certain things faster, and could possibly fix problems faster, before things get quickly out of hand. Tablet computing- gives our kids a whole new way of learning things and therefore can help them not only learn but also develope a love for learning.
Haly
1.Gesture based computing 2. Tablet computing 3. Internet of things.
Joel
Internet of things-Makes life simpler by connecting physical objects to the digital world to link objects together
Gesture based Computing-Makes the digital world more intuitive by integrating it with the physical world.
Learning analytics-Allows schools to better keep track of the success of students and is a crucial tool in making education more effective.
Brenda
1.Mobile Apps: they can do so many helpful things 2. Tablet Computing: just like the mobile apps they are very useful and easy to use.
3. Internet of things: it would be really cool if we could connect everything through the internet, and it wold make so many things so much easier.
Salim
Gesture based computing: The potential for innovativion is high and the interactiveness of it all is extremely appealing to everyone. Tablet computing: An interactive experience that can engage both students and adults alike, and the potential for its different types of uses is high. Internet of things: isolated complex systems coming together to form a single system containing multiple interacting systems. Could be very useful.
Marisa
Game Based Learning - Using chronic gamers to solve real world problems and become the solution.
Gesture Based Computing - Having your technology interact with your everyday object.
Tablet Computing - Interacting with text books through different types of media.
Morgan
Mobile Apps- Mobile Apps could be a very useful tool because it gives the opportunity to find the answer you are looking for quickly and in a very interactive way. Tablet Computing- Tablet Computing is another opportunity to learn by physically interacting with the text. It would prompt people to want to learn because it is being taught in a fun and independent way.
Gesture Based Computing- Gesture Based Computing provides a way for children to interact with physical items to piece together information creatively.
Christian
Tablet computing gives you the ability to the learn and expierence without having a laptop, or they can be a book and can teach you a wide variety of things.
Roberto
Game based learning lets users experience mystical adventure and escap their problems that they encounter everyday. Learning analytics allows students of different learning styles to learn in a diverse environment where they can learn the same material as other students but at a different pace. Tablet computing allows for a totally exciting and new age way of learning.
Taylor
Gesture Based Computing
Motion interaction personalizes the way our computers work, giving it a more human feel to use. With a swipe of your hand, a pinch of your fingers, simple, human movements, you can use your computer. Now there is even technology to allow you to take photos by making a picture taking shape with your hands, any wall can be your computer screen, your hands are the reins with which you ride the mixture of computer and real life. Game Based Learning uses a tool familiar to many people, and can be modified to use for teaching.

Finish Filming-For groups that are done filming, read through the project description below and ask questions?
Read through the entire project description on the following document NET GEN ED Project Description Page
Filling out the matrix-what will you be working on

Friday, February 24th

Task 1:
Find your team members on the Ning!
Using the Matrix as a guide, find the other members of the NETGEN ED project you will be working with and "friend" them on the Ning.
It might also be worth making a "group" for your Topic and Sub-Topic on the Ning so others may find you easily. Be a leader and try doing this (Perry and Zak can help you figure this out)

Task 2:
Make sure you have a Diigo account-please go to Diigo and try to sign into your account for me-
We are going to use Diigo in this project so get ready!

Monday, February 27th

Step 1: Go to http://flatclassroomproject.ning.com/ and SIGN IN!
Did you friend your group members on Friday? If not, try checking and seeing if you have any new members to your group.

Step 2: Add an image to your profileUse a school-appropriate photo of yourself or create an avatar.
Here are some avatar creation tools.

Tuesday, February 28th

Check out our Diigo group
This is where we share our research with each other.
  1. Sign in to Diigo-I will post your Diigo account info for you to access
  2. Find and Join NetGenEd Project group on Diigo
  3. Notice the group is using standard tags (to keep everything organized by technology trend)
    • mobile_apps
    • tablet_computing
    • game_based_lng
    • learning_analytics
    • gesture_based_computing
    • internet_of_things
